FAQ
Questions, answered.
The things people ask most about KAIZEN — how the voice works, what we do with your data, the community, and billing. Still stuck? Email support@getkaizen.app.
Getting started
What is KAIZEN?
KAIZEN is a manifestation, affirmation, and journaling app for iOS and Android. It gives you daily affirmations and mini-stories grounded in your own journal, and a daily "future-self" message — a note from a year-from-now version of you, optionally spoken in your own voice. It is a personal-development tool, not therapy, medicine, or a crisis service.
Where can I download KAIZEN?
KAIZEN is available now on both the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.
How old do I have to be?
You must be 16 or older. We ask how old you are once to confirm eligibility — a declared year of birth, not identity verification. We don't show it anywhere in the app and it's deleted when you delete your account.
How do I sign in? Is there a password?
No passwords, ever. You sign in with Apple, Google, or a one-time code emailed to you. Keep your email and linked Apple/Google account secure, since anyone with access to them can sign in.
Your voice & future-self
Do you record my voice? Is that required?
Only if you choose to. The voice feature is opt-in. When it's on, we use the recordings you make (your onboarding story and any voice journals) to build a private voice model that reads your future-self messages back to you in your own voice. With it off, your future-self messages are read in a warm voice from our library instead — the text is identical.
What exactly do you do with my voice model?
One thing only: read your own future-self messages back to you. It is never shared with other users, never sold, and never used to train shared or third-party AI models. There's no celebrity- or third-party-voice cloning. The model is held by our voice providers, Cartesia and ElevenLabs, under IDs tied to your account.
Can I turn voice off or delete my voice model?
Yes, any time, in Settings. We stop using the model immediately and trigger deletion at our voice providers, confirmed within about 24 hours. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Is the generated audio watermarked?
We're deploying an inaudible watermark for the audio KAIZEN generates, so its origin can be verified and AI-generated audio can be detected — a safeguard against deepfakes and misuse.
Privacy & your data
What data do you collect?
Your email and handle, your year of birth (for the age check), your onboarding story and goals, your journal entries (text and voice), voice recordings if you opt in, basic device and diagnostic data, and your subscription receipt status. We don't collect precise location (only an approximate city-level region from network headers), contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we never see your card number.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
No. We don't sell your data, don't show advertising, don't share your content with other users, and don't use your content to train shared or third-party AI models. See What we'll never do.
Who else processes my data?
A small set of vetted providers — Cloudflare (servers, storage, and AI text generation), OpenAI (AI text generation for some content, via its API, which does not train on your data), Neon (database), Upstash (cache), Cartesia and ElevenLabs (voice), Stripe (payments and subscription billing), Apple and Google (sign-in only, if you use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In), Brevo (email), Expo (push), Sentry (crash reports), and PostHog (analytics). The full list and what each one does is in the Privacy Policy.
Can I export or delete everything?
Yes. From Settings you can export your data (a JSON dossier plus a zip of your audio), correct your onboarding answers, restrict processing (e.g. turn off voice or community), and delete your account. Deletion wipes your data — including at our providers — and the rest of any backups age out on our normal cycle.
Community
Is the community anonymous?
Yes — anonymous by default. Your real name is never exposed in the community. You choose, per message, when to reveal your handle. One-to-one direct messages require both people to opt in.
Is this a dating app?
No. KAIZEN's community is explicitly not a dating service. It's for people walking similar paths to support each other, and using it to pursue romantic or sexual connections is against the rules.
What if I post something about being in crisis?
KAIZEN routes sensitive content (self-harm, abuse, substance use, eating concerns) to in-app resource screens with region-aware hotlines. KAIZEN is not a crisis service — if you're in danger, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line right away.
Subscriptions & billing
How much does KAIZEN cost?
KAIZEN is one auto-renewing plan with everything included: $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year, with an optional 3-day free trial for eligible new members. Checkout runs on a secure Stripe page outside the app, priced in USD.
How does the free trial work?
The trial is opt-in and lasts 3 days. Stripe Checkout collects a payment method up front to start it, but you're not charged during the trial — the first charge lands when it ends. If you don't want to continue, cancel any time before then and you won't be charged.
How do I cancel?
Cancel any time from Settings in the app — it opens the Stripe Billing Portal, a secure page where you can cancel, switch plans, or update your payment method, no store settings menu required. Your access stays active until the end of the current paid period.
Can I get a refund?
Since checkout runs through Stripe rather than the App Store or Google Play, refund requests come straight to us. Email support@getkaizen.app and we'll take care of it.
